I will forever be grateful to Taller de José for the opportunity and experiences I have gained.
Back in May, I remember feeling nervous when meeting with clients wondering if I would have the answers to their questions and all resources they needed. Through my time with Taller de José I am thankful it has helped me gain confidence, learn about different social services, grow both professionally and personally, and overall learn from clients. Taller de José staff have been kind and supportive in every possible way helping my experience be a great one. Taller de José’s commitment to serving others through case management, accompaniments, and emotional support for all who seek these services makes it a unique organization. Giving clients not only support by listening, offering case management, resources but also physically accompany them.
I remember one of my first accompaniments, I was feeling anxious about transportation, time, and the client’s expectations since it was just a month she arrived in the United States. On our way to the optometrist office, the client and I started conversating on the train. It was during this time together that the client shared her struggles with me. She spoke about the family she left behind, the challenges her country faces, and I quickly found myself feeling comfortable and present. Her resiliency was admirable. I felt this overwhelming feeling of gratefulness for allowing me to be part of her journey. Thanks to the great partnerships Taller de José has with community organizations, we were able to grant my client the eye exam and glasses at no charge. I felt happy to have witnessed her grateful smile and joyful eyes when she was informed.
I will forever thank Taller de José for allowing me to be part of clients’ lives and for making stories like this possible.
