It has been a great past couple of months. When I was applying for internships, I was really nervous on how it was going to turn out. With everything going on in the world, I thought it would be difficult to see how my placement at Taller de José was going to turn out. When I had my first interview with Taller, I could already tell what kind of environment the staff was in. I have never met a staff with such great energy and positivity. When I first started, I did not know what to expect or how this would play out. The staff is so supportive and makes sure they are available to help you in any way possible.
Working at Taller de José has taught me the true importance of accompaniment and what it means. I know we offer it to clients, but I feel that accompaniment in done mutually with my fellow compañera/os as well. Taller guides you through the challenges you face when helping a client and are always willing to guide you through next as well. I know that they will always be there to answer any questions when I desperately need them.
Before working at Taller de José, I had never realized how many people needed help with obtaining services. I always knew that people go through challenges, but Taller has opened my eyes to how hard it is for families to get by. Being able to help clients is so rewarding. I learn more and more about the different resources each day. I also learn a lot from the clients too. It just makes me feel happy to know that I can provide them with assistance on their journey.
One client I have been helping has had some trouble getting his power back on. He said that it affects his son with a disability as it makes him feel severely depressed. I have been trying to get a hold of them, but considering the circumstances they are in it has become difficult. It runs through my mind every day, that I want to be able to help them get their power back on. I think experiences like this have made me love work with social services even more. It is the thought of providing support and comfort to clients who desperately need it. I love being a part of this agency and I just want to say it is wonderful what they do for their community. I am glad to be a part of this experience and be able to share it with this community.
