Builder’s Day this year signaled hope in many ways. After having a fully remote event last year, it was exciting to be able to reconnect in-person so many of our supporters and partners; and, we even had guests joining us virtually from across the country and even internationally! I continue to be in awe of the wonderful support I feel from all of you, which gives me hope that our efforts will continue to positively impact our clients’ lives and make systems in our larger society more inclusive and accessible to all.
I am also grateful for our connections with other community organizations who are passionate about providing our community members with high quality holistic support as they make steps towards reaching their goals. This year it was our privilege to honor CARPLS with the Accompaniment Award. Since I was a Compañera in 2011, CARPLS has been one of our trusted resources and referrals. This past year, our partnership with them resulted in over 150 Spanish-speaking individuals having access to legal services in their preferred language. My experiences working with CARPLS team members as a Compañera came full circle as I presented Patricia Cintron-Bastin, on behalf of CARPLS, with the Accompaniment Award.
It was also our privilege to honor Sr. Janet Fleischhacker, CSJ Ministries Executive Director, with the Companion Award. This award recognizes the contributions of an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary companionship to Taller de José, Sr. Janet certainly fits the bill. As the founding Executive Director of CSJ Ministries since 2008, Sr. Janet has led the oversight of a diverse group of 25 ministries spanning 7 states, including Taller de José, in areas of mission, governance, and operations. Sr. Janet’s leadership and support over the past 13 years has ensured we could grow and flourish even during an economic recession, challenging political climates, and a global pandemic.
While an event like Builder’s Day carries special meaning as it only happens once a year, I am endlessly grateful for all of the support we feel as we strive to connect our community in unifying love each and every day.
