On Tuesday, I was scheduled to assist a client with voting. The client has visual impairments that prevent her from seeing detail, and thus would be unable to read the ballot. The client had called and confirmed with the election board that she could bring someone to assist her, and as I found out on the walk from her house to the voting location, she had also done her homework on the candidates. After signing an affidavit stating I would assist the client with voting, we took the paper ballot to a polling booth. I read each question and/or candidate and filled out the ballot with her responses. The client was clearly excited to exercise her right to vote, and grateful for the assistance. While this may seem like a minor accompaniment, to me it was an awesome privilege. And I will remain grateful that the client placed her trust in our agency and in me.
