Marisol originally came to Taller de José almost 4 years ago, seeking assistance with several legal matters. When she first visited, she had recently left a situation of domestic violence and was in the process of building a new life for herself and her children. Taller de José was able to connect her with legal resources and assisted her with the process of gathering the necessary evidence to apply for the UVisa. The UVisa is an immigration visa available to certain victims of violent crimes.
Thanks to the assistance of pro-bono attorneys, Marisol successfully received the UVisa, enabling her to begin working. This was a huge step towards Marisol and her family becoming self-sufficient. A few years later, Marisol was eligible to apply for residency, giving her a more permanent status in the United States and relieving any fears that she might one day be separated from her children. This week, Marisol trekked through the 19 inches of snow and freezing temperatures to visit Taller de José, but this time she did’t come for assistance. Marisol came to say “thank you,” and to show her compañera her residency card! Taller de José was so grateful to hear about Marisol’s happy ending and to see the smile on her face.
